The Shackleton Expanse
An unmapped, sparsely settled region on the far side of Federation space, where subspace distortions make long-range sensors unreliable. It's home to struggling colonies, independent miners, Orion traders and ancient ruins nobody has catalogued.
Eight months before the Snowdon arrived, her sister ship the USS Ben Nevis disappeared somewhere inside it, with all hands.
